China’s national economy has maintained good growth momentum in the recent 20 years. From 1997 to 2002, China’s GDP rose from 7.4 trillion Yuan (USD 891.6 billion) to 10.2 trillion Yuan (USD 1.2 trillion). The combined volume of import and export increased from USD325.2 billion to USD 620.8 billion. China’s foreign exchange reservation climbed from USD139.9 billion to USD286.4 billion. Investment in fixed assets over this period totaled 17.2 trillion Yuan (USD2.1 trillion). In particular, based on the issuance of 660 billion Yuan (USD79.5 billion) of long-term state treasury bonds, it not only strongly supported the development of the infrastructure and the western region, but also greatly encouraged the technological modernization of enterprises. The country’s economic strength, ability to withstand risks and potential of sustainable development were significantly enhanced.
Recent years, Chinese machine tools have made great progress in developing high speed, high precision and multiple functions, but still cannot follow the pace of economic development and satisfy the requirement of customers. The consumption of machine tools in China reached USD5.91 billion in 2002, and is expected to reach USD 7 billion in 2005. Therefore, we must strengthen international cooperation and introduce advanced technology and investment. We hope to co-establish a grand machine tool market through cooperation between China and foreign machine tool industry.
The scale of CIMT2003 created a historic record. It is predicted that the scale of CIMT2005 will be no less than that of CIMT2003. We will further improve the management and service of the show. We believe that CIMT2005 will be an ideal business platform for trade, technical exchange and cooperation. All exhibitors, importers, end users, visitors are most welcome at CIMT2005.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Beijing.
Thank you
Yu Chengting President of CMTBA
